Services

Cargo Superintendence

Working on board on behalf of shipowners or charterers as cargo superintendent for steel, break bulk, project and grain cargoes, coordinating with terminals, stevedoring companies, Port Wardens and assisting the ship staff in:

  • Preparing cargo plans based on dimensions/particulars/plans of the ship.

  • Using the on board loadicator for examining the longitudinal and transversal stability and deflections.

  • In case of project cargoes using the CSS Code Annex 13 calculations for lashing plans. In case of coils using best lashing practices.

  • Assisting the Master and Chief Mate in preparing grain calculations with Canadian / NCB forms, as well as maximization of cargo lift.

  • Using on board trimming tables and hydrostatics for final trimming calculations in order to load to max draft.

  • Assessment of cargo suitability and recommendations according to IMSBC code and IMDG code.

Accident Investigation

Assisting ship owners and cargo interests in determining the causes of accidents involving ships, terminals – equipment, and cargoes using techniques such as:

  • Fracture mechanics and corrosion of materials, material testing techniques such as metallurgical analysis.
  • Risk and reliability applied to structural design, including crude Montecarlo simulation for determining probable values of loads.
  • Basic principles of ship stability and structural resistance for structural accidents during sea passage.
  • Collection of data, testing, and using other techniques of advanced structural analysis such as FEA.
  • Basic principles of hydrostatics and hull deflections including draft surveys to determine causes of overdraft, shortage, and grounding.

Marine Surverying, Claim Handling, Loss Prevention

Acting as a Marine Surveyor on behalf or carriers or cargo interests and underwriters to investigate and report on nature, cause, and extent of any type of cargo damage, HM and PANDI claims, performing the following:

  • Steel preloading survey, proposing clausing of MR and BL.

  • Hatch or container opening survey, assessment of stowage and securing, and cargo separation, segregation and marking.

  • Out turn survey and assessment of damages and origin.

  • Inspection and assessment of securing.

  • Sorting of damaged cargo and quantifying the losses: salvage.

  • Assessment of causes leading to damages and presentation of corrective actions: loss prevention.

  • Risk assessment of structures and infrastructures, loading and carriage. FSA techniques.

 Measurements and Calculations

Our company can provide shipowners, charterers, and cargo interests with calculations of ship displacement and cargo weight as well as quantities of bunkers on board. Also with a scientific method for calculating and performing a safe securing of non-standardized cargo:

  • Draft surveys or displacement and cargo weight calculation by draft / hydrostatic readings.
  • Bunker surveys and calculations by soundings of tanks and using relevant information applying volume and weight correction factors as per tables ASTM 54B and 56.
  • Using the CSS Code Annex 13 calculations for developing securing plans for project cargoes and best lashing practices for coils cargoes.

Condition Survey and Vetting

Our company can perform on behalf of ship owners, charterers, or interested parties the following inspections in order to assess the structural, safety, and management condition of the vessel:

  • Condition surveys for delivery or re-delivery
  • Condition surveys before shipment of metal scrap cargoes
  • Vetting inspections
  • Pre-purchase inspection
